Dr. Chun is from Seoul, Korea who studied history at Korea University then came to America on a Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship. He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 1974 with a B.A. in Business Administration, received his M.A. in Business from Appalachian State University in 1975, his CPA license in April of 1983, a Ph.D. from LaSalle University in 1986, and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree (LL.D) from Lenoir-Rhyne University in May 2000.

Ki-Hyun Chun came to America with his newlywed wife Sunny with big dreams and ambitions. These dreams and ambitions have become a reality through his key philosophies which are "Live for Others" and "Knowledge is Power."

Dr. Chun espouses these fundamental principles through his work and his community service. He has held teaching posts as Adjunct Professor for two years at Pfeiffer University and seven years at Johnson C. Smith University, winning teaching awards. He taught Accounting, Federal Taxation, Business, Economics, and Auditing.

Dr. Chun's strong sense of community service has led him to strive to unify the energy of Asians for the betterment of the Carolinas communities. In August 1977 he helped organize and found the first Asian Church in Charlotte (now Charlotte Presbyterian Church) serving as a ruling elder. In May 1984, he opened the Asian Language Institute serving as a principal. In January 1985, he established the Asian Pacific Caucus in North Carolina and served as a chairman. In July 1993, he began publishing two newspapers, the Asian Herald (written in English) and the Korean Herald (written in Korean). All of these endeavors have led up to the zenith of his life-long dream of opening a library, with his extensive collection of over 132,000 books amassed over 40 years. It is the largest private Asian Library in the nation. Although the Asian Herald Library was founded in October of 1985, it operated out of a leased space. It was not until July of 1997, when Dr. Chun purchased the King's Tower building at over 18,000 square feet that The Asian Herald Library found its current h ome and became more widely publicized as being free and opened to the public in October of 1997. With Asians throughout the Carolinas meeting and coming together at the Library, he saw an excellent means to pool the Asian communities together and started the Carolinas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC) in June of 1999 serving as the founder and first president.
